Ujjain: After the Indore incident, the RTO and traffic police have been involved in an intensive checking of school buses. The traffic police stopped and checked more than a dozen buses on Hariphatak over bridge, on Friday morning. Chalans were handed over to those buses in which PUC faults, uniform and emergency gate was found.

In a bus belonging to Stanford International School, the handle of the emergency gate was found broken. Other buses of this school were also served with chalan for broken gate handles. In Gyan Sagar School bus), there was no emergency gate and PUC (Pollution under Control). The bus driver of Carmel Convent School bus was not wearing uniform and hence was given a chalan of Rs 500. Traffic SI Mohan Bharrawat said traffic police officers were going to schools to educate them but despite this, bus operators were not installing necessary equipment in the buses. The process of handing over chalans will continue in the coming days.

The RTO has inspected about 350 buses so far and fitness of about 50 buses was cancelled. The registration of 11 buses which were found to be more than 15 years old was cancelled. If those buses which had their fitness levels cancelled, found to be plying, then a fine of Rs 2000 to 10000 will be levied on them. When RTO Santosh Malviya was contacted for further information, he said he did not have the data at present and asked to approach him on Monday.
