MOST ACCURATE FORECAST: Winter blast this weekend!
PHOENIX - We are just hours away from our next blast of winter weather.
Temperatures will drop nearly 20 degrees for your weekend as a strong cold front swings through our state and chances for Valley rain and higher terrain snow are back!
Right now, it looks like we'll see a 20 percent chance of showers on Saturday. The spots that do get rain will likely get less than a tenth of an inch.
Snow levels up north will drop to around 5,000 feet through the day on Saturday. Most of the accumulating snow will stay above 6,000 feet with the potential for three to five inches for places like Flagstaff and the Mogollon Rim.
Gusty southwest winds will also crank up across our state with peak wind gusts near 40 mph up north.
The combination of strong winds and moderate to heavy snow will create some hazardous travel conditions on the roads with some slick spots and reduced visibility from blowing snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the high country from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
A Wind Advisory will also be in effect for portions of northeast Arizona on Saturday. Wind gusts could reach as high as 55 mph in spots like Winslow, Holbrook, and Snowflake.
We'll feel some stronger breezes in the Valley, too. Expect occasional wind gusts near 25 mph.
Cooler air moves in Saturday dropping temperatures around nearly 20 degrees.
Valley highs only reach the upper 50s to low 60s Saturday and Sunday, putting us several degrees below normal over the weekend.
We'll also feel some pretty cold morning temperatures as lows drop into the 30s across the Phoenix metro early Sunday morning.
Temperatures will be back on the rise next week with mostly sunny, dry days ahead.
Highs will hit the mid 60s Monday before climbing into the low 70s for the middle of next week.
