In association with Tirunelveli District Chess Association, The Hindu In School (THIS) conducted a chess competition, powered by Thyrocare, at VOC Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.
A total of 225 students from Under 9, 11, 13 and 15 category participated in this competition.
Winners: Under – 9: 1. P. Naveenkumar, 2. S. Arjun and 3. S. Santhosh.
Under – 11: 1. L.S. Rajesh, 2. S. Mitul Bal and 3. A. Palvanann.
Under – 13: 1. E. Yukash Ram, 2. P. James Edison and 3. S.G. Gowtham.
Under – 15: 1. S. Suganthan, 2. B.V. Manikanda Prabhu and 3. R. Harikrishna.
Girls: Under – 9: 1. S. Tawfeeqa and 2. Abigail Indra.
Under – 11: 1. N. Asfia and 2. V.S. Sri Divyadharshini.
Under – 13: 1. G. Charumathi and 2. S. Subha Lakshmi.
Under – 15: 1. A. Kiruthika and 2 P. Priyadharshini.
Naveen Kumar bagged the ‘Emerging player of the competition’ award.
B. Jeyanthi, Principal, University VOC College of Engineering, Anna University, Thoothukudi, gave away cash awards and the trophies to top three players in each category, 7 consolation prizes for all the categories. Separate prizes were given for girls while all participants received certificates of appreciation.
While the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority was the venue sponsor, snacks and beverage sponsor was Rajah Group, Tirunelveli.
The Hindu Young World Painting Competition, in association with Thyrocare, will be held at Francis Xavier Engineering College, Palayamkottai, between 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Sunday (January 21).
