Beach Street home in Ormond is rich in history, luxury

ORMOND BEACH —The riverfront home at 458 S. Beach St. is rich in history, said Bill Navarra, listing agent and broker of Realty Pros Assured.

The home is situated on 1.6 acres of what used to be a banana plantation. It was built in 1907 by the same builders of the former Riviera Hotel off Ridgewood Avenue, a historical Ormond Beach landmark. In the Rio Vista area of which it is part, there are about 15 other remaining homes from the 1900s era, Navarra said.

“The heritage and the age of the home is what is remarkable,” Navarra said. “It is so uniquely of its era, yet it has all modern features.”

Despite renovations and add-ons in 2009 and 2010, the home still boasts many features original to the 1907 version — from door handles, to the rustic floors and original windows, to the Hardie board siding and old-style shingles. It also has two staircases, which Navarra said is characteristic of the era.

The sunroom, with its many windows and patio-like feel, is where residents used to go for warmth back before central heating and cooling, Navarra said.

“It’s got all the charm of an older home, and everything of the 1900 to 1909 era,” Navarra said. “Its add-ons and the flexibility add to it.”
