Massive fire engulfs Giriraj Heights at Thane, 153 rescued; no casualties

Mumbai: A massive fire engulfed Giriraj Heights residential building at Naupada at Thane on Friday afternoon due to a short circuit. 153 persons were rescued immediately. No casualties have been reported.
The fire occurred at 1:30 pm on the fourth floor of Giriraj Heights building near Hari Niwas at Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road. According to preliminary information, the fire started due to a short circuit in the fourth-floor electric duct. The mishap has affected the wiring from the fourth till the 26th floor.
According to a fire official, “We received a call at around 1:35 p.m. immediately after the mishap, following which three fire engines were rushed to the spot. Eight fire engines, 70 firemen, two water tankers, a branto fire firefighting vehicle and two ambulances were rushed to the spot.No casualties have been reported.150 residents were rescued safely and three persons who had rushed to the building’s refugee area are also safe.” Police officials and ambulances were also rushed to the spot to help with the evacuation.
