The N.M. Joshi Marg police on Saturday registered an FIR against the owners of Navrang Studio in Todi Mills, Lower Parel, in connection with the fire in the studio on Friday.
The fire, which was reported around 1 a.m., was put out after 12 hours, after which the Fire Brigade and police inspected the studio. “We found that a large number of celluloid films, which are flammable, were stored in the studio. We did not find any indications of precautions required to be taken when storing flammable materials under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention Life Safety Act, 2006,” Divisional Fire Officer Sampat Karade told the police in his statement. Mr. Karade said massive flames were shooting out of the windows of the studio, causing possible danger to the establishments around the studio.
“We have booked the studio owners for negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter under the Indian Penal Code,” a police officer said.
