Village farmer an Internet celebrity

DRESSING himself up as the famous “Water Margin” character Lu Zhishen, who is nicknamed “Flowery Monk” and known as a heavy drinker, Jiang Jinchun wields a spade in a bamboo forest while drinking his homemade wine from a jug.

Jiang is not an actor, but the scene is part of his live broadcast routine.

Jiang doesn’t broadcast his life online to show off, but to display the great changes happening in the countryside and the beauty of his hometown in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province.

In real life, the 39-year-old is a farmer from Hengfeng County. Known as “Brother Jiang,” he has over 1.8 million fans online.

Jiang has been broadcasting his village life since 2010, showing the landscape, agricultural products and changes in his hometown.

Speaking a mix of local dialect and Mandarin, Jiang reveals how bamboo shoots are cut and dried, how crude camellia oil is extracted from seeds, how old village homes are renovated and how the scenery changes with seasons in the village.

The live broadcast has brought him a large number of customers who are interested in purchasing healthy local products.

Jiang has also helped more than 200 fellow villagers sell their products online through his live broadcast. Some of them increased income by more than 20,000 yuan (US$3,108) last year.

Jiang says he plans to attract more fans and to start a family inn, helping people see the beauty of his hometown.
