If you live in Shreveport or Bossier City, you may not be familiar with the Official Visitors’ Guide to Shreveport-Bossier. This brochure is the largest annual publication created by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. The 2018 edition, which was recently released, is 72 full-color pages. The guide includes listings for local hotels, casinos, attractions and restaurants, as well as editorial content on things to see and do in Caddo and Bossier parishes.

Several years ago, we made extensive updates to the look of the guide. For the last four years, we’ve featured well-known locals on the cover of the guide, including Chef Panderina Soumas of Soumas Heritage Creole Creations, David Doe of Herby-K’s, Katy Larsen of The Agora Borealis and Chef Tootie Morrison of Abby Singer’s Bistro. The cover of the 2018 edition celebrates Shreveport-Bossier’s newest family attraction, Shreveport Aquarium, and a profile of the aquarium is included on page 22. The theme of the 2018 guide is “Dive Into Adventure.”

“With Shreveport Aquarium opening in 2017 and the addition of Gator Raceway at Gators and Friends Adventure Park, we saw this as an opportunity to highlight all of the ways that adventure-seekers can enjoy themselves in Caddo and Bossier parishes,” says Brandy Evans, Vice President of Communications at the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. “Based on our research, visitors are always seeking more information on things for families to do in Shreveport-Bossier, and the adventure theme helps us deliver that information.”

Eighty-five thousand copies of the 2018 guide were printed and will be distributed to potential visitors through a variety of methods. Those methods include mailing brochures to individuals who request the guide as well as distributing thousands of brochures via information racks located in cities like Monroe, Tyler, Texarkana and Alexandria. Some local venues and businesses distribute the guide, including Shreveport Convention Center, Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets, and hotels, museums and malls. There are nearly 400 sites where visitors and potential visitors can pick up copies of the guide.

In addition to the 85,000 printed copies, the guide is also distributed digitally. The brochure can be downloaded as a .PDF file or viewed in an online e-reader at www.Shreveport-Bossier.org. Other brochures produced by the Tourist Bureau, such as a local restaurant guide, a Mardi Gras guide and an annual events calendar, can also be downloaded or viewed online.

While online traffic is important to Evans, she doesn’t see the printed edition of the Visitors’ Guide going away anytime soon.

“Our research has consistently shown that our visitors tend to skew older than the average traveler, and they still prefer the printed brochure to an e-reader or a .PDF download,” says Evans. “We want the Visitors’ Guide to pique their interest and point them to the website, where they can plan their entire visit, build a printable itinerary and even book their hotel.”

Also new this year is a welcome video designed to complement the 2018 Visitors’ Guide. In the video, local actor and museum curator Angelique Feaster Evans narrates a guided tour of some of her favorite places in Shreveport-Bossier.
