Yadav Singh had allegedly awarded projects to five private firms for bribes

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a fresh case against former Noida Authority chief engineer Yadav Singh for allegedly awarding projects worth ₹116.39 crore to five private companies during his tenure, in lieu of bribes.

On Friday, the CBI searched eight premises in Delhi, Noida and Ranchi in connection with the case.

Among those named in the FIR are Mr. Singh, the then chief maintenance engineer; Javed Ahmed, owner of Gul Engineers Co; Sai Raju, Manish Kumar and Prem Pradeep, directors of SMP Technology; Kumar Saurav and Prem Pradeep, as directors of Abu Infracon.

Sanjay Kumar Gupta, owner of Sanjay Electricals; and Sanjay Kumar Sharma of Shakambari Projects have also been named.

Violating rules

The agency alleged that the former chief engineer received bribes regularly from contractors for awarding contracts in violation of the rules. He allegedly favoured Gul Engineers by awarding 31 contracts amounting to ₹.37.99 crore during 2007-12. The company had also allegedly indulged in cartelisation of bidders.

Mr. Singh awarded five projects to SMP Technology, worth ₹2.19 crore, related to computerisation of water billing in Noida. The company directors were classmates of Mr. Singh’s son Sunny Yadav. Also, SMP Technology had hired the premises of Kusum Garments, a company run by Mr. Singh’s wife Kusum Lata and his son, said the CBI.

Abu Infracon was awarded 16 projects during 2011-14 despite the fact that it did not fulfil the eligibility criteria, as alleged. “A number of suspicious transactions are alleged to have taken place between K.S. Ultratech Pvt. Ltd., a company of Ms. Kusum Lata, and SMP Technology, as well as Abu Infracon Pvt. Ltd, which was controlled by the close friends of Mr. Sunny Yadav,” said the FIR.
