Stetson 59, Lipscomb 55
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jordan Tully's short jumper in the lane with 58 seconds to go proved to be the game-winner as Stetson (12-8, 3-1 ASUN) won at Lipscomb (6-13, 2-2).
Brittney Chambers led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Hatters won their third in a row.
"I am proud of the team for hanging in there, especially in the last few minutes," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "We got a stop when we needed to. Jordan got a key basket and a couple of rebounds. I really liked what she did down the stretch."
Chambers was one of three Hatters to record a double-double. McKenna Beach had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Michelle Pruitt had 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.
As a team, the Hatters pulled down a season-high 58 rebounds, including 22 on the offensive end that led to 18 second-chance points.
"The effort was great on the boards," Bria said. "Overall, our effort was outstanding the entire game. Our bigs played really, really well."
With the score tied at 54 with 1:15 to go, Tully grabbed a key offensive rebound and later scored in the paint to put Stetson ahead by two. On Lipscomb's next possession, Tully blocked Lauren Cagle down low and Chambers grabbed the rebound. She hit one of two from the line to give the Hatters a three-point lead, and Beach drained two more free throws with 3.9 seconds to play to seal the victory.
Taylor Clark scored 21 points to lead the Lady Bisons. The Hatters held Cagle to just four points.
"(Cagle) is one of the best players in the league and commands a lot of attention, and we did a great job on her," Bria said.
Stetson shot just 32 percent but hit eight 3-pointers, including four by Beach and three by Chambers. Beach also dished out six assists while Tully recorded three blocks.
The Hatters will go for their fourth win in a row at 7 p.m. Monday at Kennesaw State.
