The Rajasthan state government has decided to file a review petition against Supreme Court's stay on the ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmaavat.
A committee formed by the government which studied supreme Court's order under the chairmanship of Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has decided to file a petition on Monday or Tuesday. The committee members include senior cabinet ministers Rajendra Rathore, Gulab Chand Kataria and senior officers of home and law departments.
"We have jointly decided to file a review petition in the Supreme court. We have studied the courts order and we respect the Supreme Court's order but the honour of the historic event of 'Jauhar' should be protected as per the public sentiment," Kataria told DH.
Home Minister held a two hour long meeting with the leaders of Karni Sena. Kataria, a group protesting against the film. He also appealed the Karni Sena, to be a party to the petition. The Mewar Royal family has also been invited to be a party to the petition.
Continuing its protest against the screening of controversial film Padmaavat, Shri Rajput Rashtriya Karni Sena had threatened that it will not allow Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Prasoon Joshi to participate in 2018 edition of Jaipur Literature Festival. Registering its disagreement with Joshi, Rashtriya Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi on Friday threatened to disrupt session at JLF if Prasoon Joshi attends.
Unhappy with the Supreme Court order that stayed the ban on the release of controversial film 'Padmavaat' in the four states - Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat, Karni sena had threatened to shut the doors of Chittorgarh fort on Sunday and later on 24th they had threatened of performing a mass johur in chittor. "The mass Johur plan to be held on 24th is still on. We will back track only after state government files review petition", Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi told DH .
