Lifetree Café: Daytona Beach
The program, titled “News From the Future: A Futurist Gives a Sneak Peak,” will be discussed at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Lifetree Café, 142 Fairview Ave., Daytona Beach. This will feature a filmed interview with Thomas Frey, senior futurist at the Davinci Institute. Ladies Bible study group
The evening ladies Bible study group will begin a new series at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in room 113 of the Life Enrichment Center at First United Methodist Church, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand.
The study will be “Twisting the Truth: Learning to Discern in a Culture of Deception” by Andy Stanley. Books can be ordered for $7. For information, call 386-734-5113.

Book studies at DeLand FUMC
During the Impact Gatherings on Wednesdays in the Life Enrichment Center at First United Methodist Church, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand, the Rev. Owen Stricklin is leading a study by Ray Vander Laan entitled, “A Clash of Kingdoms.” The author “takes you deeper into the culture of ancient Phillipi and Thessalonica.” His study “allows you to experience, through video, the Bible in historical context as you walk in the footsteps of the second missionary tour of the Apostle Paul in Greece.”
Denise Gilman is leading a study on “Becoming a Contagious Christian” in the parlor of the LEC. This book, authored by Mark Mittelberg, Lee Strobel and Bill Hybels, shows “ordinary believers how to share the gospel in natural and effective ways while being the person God made them to be.”
These studies are preceded by dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the LEC. Reservations are required for the dinner by the previous Monday. The cost is $5 per person with no family paying more than $15.
Winter Olympics Celebration
The Trinity Lutheran Church adult choir and handbell choir will present a hymn festival celebrating the spirit of the 2018 Winter Olympics at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at 485 Turnbull Bay Road, New Smyrna Beach.
The Olympic fanfares and music from South Korea and selected other countries will be included. Chaplain Charles Weinrich will be the narrator. Guest trumpeter is Tom Macklin of Stetson University and Brian Larson will direct the choirs.
The event is free and open to the public. Non-perishable food items wil be received for Gifts of Love and Halifax Urban Ministries. A soup and bread supper will follow the program. For information, call 386-428-4307.
