Seacoast Roundup: STA girls start fast to outpace Campbell

LITCHFIELD — The St. Thomas Aquinas High school girls basketball team jumped out to a 39-18 lead in the first half en route to winning their seventh Division III game of the season, 64-50, at Campbell.

Lindsay Towle led STA (7-3) with 14 points, while Maggie Marsh added 12 and Chloe Benelli and Maggie Predaris had eight apiece.

The Saints, who have won five of their last six, host Raymond Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bow 42, Coe-Brown 39

BOW — The Bears rallied in the fourth quarter on the road, but a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie it fell short.

Ahha McCusker led the way with 15 points and 12 boards, while Val White added 12 points.

Coe-Brown (3-6) visit Souhegan Monday.

Concord Christian 27, Nute 24

MILTON — Emilee Flanagan had a big night with 21 points, six blocks and nine rebounds, but ther Rams slipped to 1-9 in Division IV.

Devon Hurley added a point, four rebounds and four assists, while Penelope Ayotte had two points and four rebounds.

Abby Reynolds and Rylee Hartford played solid defense.

Nute visits Newmarket Tuesday.

Traip 53, Waynflete 40

KITTERY, Maine — Reilly Eddy scored 20 points and Cassidy Delano chipped in 14 to pace the Rangers, who put this Class C South game away with a 24-9 run in the third quarter.

Addy Hale added 10 points for the Rangers, who improved to 4-7 and beat Waynflete for the first time in their last six meetings.

Traip travels to face North Yarmouth today at 12:30 p.m.

Alvirne 45, Spaulding 37

ROCHESTER — Spaulding trailed 34-20 at halftime, but closed to eight after three quarters, 38-30. However the Red Raiders could not close the gap in the fourth.

Phoebe Downer had 12 points to lead Spaulding (2-6). Mary Paradis added 11. Spaulding hosts Manchester Central Tuesday.

Portsmouth 55, Goffstown 39

PORTSMOUTH — The Clippers improved to 7-0 in Division II with Friday's win.

Sadie Shore led Portsmouth 14 points, while Corinne Lamond had nine points and 10 boards. Arianna Hebert had nine points, five assists and three steals. Abbe Laurence scored four points and pulled down 17 rebounds.

The Clippers host Kingswood Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bow 38, Coe-Brown 35

NORTHWOOD — The Bears had a four-point lead with two minutes to go and could not hold in in Division II.

Scott Spenard led Coe-Brown (5-2) with 13 points and five rebounds. Albert Lapiejko added 10 points and seven boards, while Kyshaun Rowell had four points and six deflections.

The Bears visit Plymouth Monday. Bow is 2-4.

Oyster River 73, Kingswood 55

WOLFEOBORO — The Bobcats had a big fourth quarter (25 points) to pull away from Kingswood on the road Friday in Division II.

OR (6-1) led 30-29 at the half and 48-43 after two. In the fourth, the Bobcats outscored the Knights, 25 to 12.

Max Lewis led a balanced attack with 19 points. Joe Morrell added 15, Tyler McKenna had 11 and Kyle Landrigan tossed in 10.

Oyster River hosts Windham Tuesday.

Alvirne 68, Spaulding 63

HUDSON — It was the same old thing for the Red Raiders, who played well enough to get back in the game, but not well enough to win.

Alvirne (6-1) hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter to go up 25-7.

Spaulding (1-6) cut the lead to three in the fourth, led by Isaiah Rose with 22 points and Arie Breakfield with 20.

It was their fifth loss by six points or less.

The Red Raiders play at Manchester Central Tuesday.

Waynflete 66, Traip 45

PORTLAND, Maine — It was a game at halftime, the Rangers trailing just 33-28. But Waynflete (8-3) outscored Traip 20-10 in the third quarter to pull away.

Charlie Driscoll scored 21 points and Dalan Hubbard had 12 for Traip (5-7). The Rangers are back in action today at North Yarmouth (2:30 p.m.).

Gilford 62, Somersworth 53

GILFORD — The Hilltoppers (8-1) dropped their first game of the D-III season Friday night in Gilford.

Somersworth is back at it Tuesday at Campbell.

Farmington 62, Colebrook 38

FARMINGTON — The Tigers had played one game in 20 days coming in, but they found their rhythm Friday to pick up the D-IV win.

Farmington led 32-11 at halftime. Logan Ebare led the way with 24 points, while Krys Demers added 13.

The Tigers (2-3) plays at Concord Christian Monday.

Exeter 67, Merrimack 32

MERRIMACK — With its assortment of offensive weapons, the Exeter High School boys basketball team can be tough to stop.

On Friday night, the Blue Hawks were tough to score on, too.

Cody Morissette scored 15 points, and Josh Morissette posted eight of his 14 during a game-sealing third quarter in Exeter’s win at Merrimack.

The Blue Hawks remain the lone unbeaten team atop the Division I standings at 7-0. They held Merrimack to 11 points in the first half.

Jake Ross added 10 points off the bench for Exeter, which hosts Nashua South on Tuesday.

Marshwood girls first, boys second

BRIDGTON, Maine — The Marshwood girls alpine ski team took first place during a five-team giant slalom event Friday at Shawnee Peak.

The Hawks had 25 points to beat out Kennebunk (33). The Marshwood boys were second in their meet with 31 to 19 for Kennebunk.

All four scorers for the girls placed in the top 10: Katie Mundell (1:14.76, third), Ella Manero (1:20.22, seventh), Alex Gale (1:20.50, ninth) and Brooke Flynn (1:20.75, 10th).

For the boys, Jack Flynn was fourth in 1:11.26, while Brenna Shiverick was seventh in 1:13.52. Tucker Davis was eighth in 1:14.89, and Jacob Sansoucie was 16th in 1:19.97.

Traip's Bella Wollacott was second in the girls GS in 1:13.88.

BOYS HOCKEY

Somersworth/Coe-Brown 4, Hollis-Brookline/Derryfield 1

Cal Welch made 36 saves to help the Bearcars even their Division III mark at 4-4.

Scoring single goals were Matt Kelley (assist), Jake Spainhower (assist), Cam Frank and Connor Cossette.
