A shortage of boxcars is causing problems for Head of the Lakes grain elevator operators, officials said yesterday. The shortage is mainly caused by the release of grain by farmers who have been withholding it from the market to get a better price.

Fund-raisers from the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church are expected in Hibbing today after being granted a solicitation permit by the Hibbing City Council. The granting of the permit ends a six-month battle between the group and city officials.

Jan. 20, 1998

Wisconsin officials are preparing for the worst today as the Fort James Corp. prepares to announce the fate of its Ashland mill. In case the plant closes, the state is pledging a package of assistance that would retrain the plant's 200 hourly workers.

On Friday, Duluth's Norshor Theater will reopen, showing the film "Eve's Bayou" in its upstairs theater. Manager Rick Boo hopes the film will start a profitable string of independent and art films that will kick-start the rebirth of Duluth's Old Downtown.
