WESTPORT — A West Haven man was caught harboring stolen fish in his car during an unrelated traffic stop, police said.

Westport Police said they pulled over a suspicious vehicle that was driving slowly through the parking lots of various different businesses on Post Road East Thursday afternoon with no front license plate.

Inside, police found 49-year-old Joseph Costello, of West Haven, and 43-year-old Wendy Lynch, of East Lyme. In speaking with the car’s occupants, police learned that Lynch had an active warrant out of Stratford for her arrest stemming from a failure to appear in court.

As police were taking Lynch into custody, they also learned that Costello had stolen packages of fish from a Westport grocery store earlier in the day, according to reports.

Lynch was charged with second-degree failure to appear, and she was held on a $495 bond. Costello was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and he was held on a $500 bond.

Both were scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19.
