‘New levies by banks not customer-friendly’

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

Samajwadiparty State president Rabi Behera has demanded withdrawal of all new levies to be effective from January 20 by banks on customers for banking transactions.

Dubbing them as Jijia, Behera, writing to the Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Bhubaneswar, said such imposition of taxes is exploitation of customers and detrimental to the purpose of Digital India.

“While banks have failed to reach out to maximum number of customers to render services, such taxes in our view will be a regressive step for bringing people into the ambit of banking services,” Behera said, adding that while the Union Government and the State Government are trying to provide banking services to all its citizens, the unilateral tax imposition by banks would dissuade customers from availing banking services.
