A police inspector is facing departmental action after she publicly hoisted the AIADMK’s flag here.
Even as the birth centenary of former Chief Minister MGR was being celebrated in Tiruvarur district, AIADMK cadre and those owing allegiance to R.K. Nagar MLA T.T.V. Dhinakaran jostled for space to hoist party flags in several places. At Karuvakurichi village near Mannargudi, two groups were at loggerheads over hoisting the party flag, when a police team, led by Mannargudi DSP Asokan and including Vaduvoor inspector Jayanthi, reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitated crowd.
While the DSP was trying to negotiate an agreement, all of a sudden, Ms. Jayanthi brought down the flag hoisted on the AIADMK mast by the supporters of Mr. Dinakaran, amid strong objection from them.
The drama did not end there as Ms. Jayanthi went on to hoist the official AIADMK flag on the pole, in a bid to end the tussle quickly and to prevent the situation from escalating into a law and order problem.
Upset over this, the supporters of Mr. Dhinakaran lodged an online complaint with the Superintendent of Police, Mayilvahanan, following which a departmental inquiry was initiated against Ms. Jayanthi.
