I am a local day care owner. Working with children gives me great joy. It is truly something that I love.

I am very passionate about special-needs children being treated fairly. I myself have special-needs children in my family, and it breaks my heart for such children to be treated unfairly.

It has recently come to my attention that some other local child-care facilities may not be doing all they can for families of special-needs children.

I have had a number of families tour my day care and let me know that their children may need extra assistance due to their special needs. These families told me that once other facilities were aware of their situation, all of a sudden the day care that had spots available for their child no longer had any.

It is against the law for providers to discriminate like this.

Maybe the next time this happens, a family should go online and speak its mind. Let the public know about these insensitive, prejudice caregivers that should not be working with any child.
