Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the team’s next two games to manage soreness in his right knee, the team announced Saturday.
Antetokounmpo, 23, will miss Saturday’s game at Philadelphia and Monday’s game against Phoenix, and by the time Milwaukee plays again on Friday against Brooklyn, he will have received treatment for eight days without a game.
He leads the NBA in minutes played per game (37.4), and the Bucks have been trying to reduce his minutes. However, they are short-handed in the front-court with Mirza Teletovic and Jabari Parker sidelined with health issues. The Bucks are planning for Parker’s return next month, most likely after the Feb. 18 All-Star Game.
Antetokounmpo, who is averaging 28.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks and was voted on All-Star starter on Thursday, missed two games earlier this season: at Phoenix on Nov. 22 and at Charlotte on Dec. 23.
