Following the ban various Indian states had put on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, the makers moved to the Supreme Court. The court ruled in favour of the Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh starrer and lifted the ban. However, trouble is far from over for this magnum opus. The film might not release in Rajasthan, thanks to the scared distributors who feel threatened by the Karni Sena who continues to protest against the film’s screening. The Rajput outfit has warned of dire consequences to life and property if Padmaavat is screened and therefore, distributors in Rajasthan are not willing to buy the film’s rights.

The producers were asking for Rs 5 to Rs 6 crore for the distribution right which is not huge considering the grandiose of the project, however, distributors have refused. According to a report o ToI, audience and cinema hall owners are all intimidated by the threats and since the controversy still continues, distributors are getting cold feet even for a film which would have in a normal scenario fetched them double or triple return on the investment. Distributors are of the opinion that till the producers of Padmaavat don’t reach a pact with the Karni Sena, they will not be keen on risking their money and their theatres to screen the film. If nothing is done about this, cine buffs in Rajasthan, waiting for Padmaavat will be in for a big disappointment. This is also a loss for the film since it is based on a story from Rajasthan, and the state is the fifth largest film territory in terms of film business. If the film is banned in its states, Padmaavat will not be able to earn as much as it could have in a non-controversial, amicable environment scenario. The film is set for a January 25 release, with not many days left till the D-day, let’s see how this issue gets resolved, if at all.
