Falls while jumping from one roof to the other; fractures legs

A 26-year-old was arrested for allegedly snatching a Kalyanpuri resident’s phone on Thursday, the police said on Friday. The accused was arrested after he fell from the terrace while trying to escape the police.

Ranjit alias Dabbu, a resident of Kalyanpuri, allegedly snatched Akash’s mobile phone. “The accused snatched his phone and fled. Mr. Akash called the police immediately,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Omvir Singh.

When the police reached the spot, Mr. Akash told them that he recognised the snatcher but did not know his address.

“Mr. Ranjit’s address was traced with help of human surveillance and teams were set to nab him,” said Mr. Singh.

As soon as the police arrived at his house, he ran towards the terrace and jumped from one roof to the other to evade arrest.

“The officers chased him. He fell from the terrace and ended up fracturing his legs,” said a senior police officer.

Mr. Ranjit was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent treatment for a day. He was arrested later and the stolen phone was recovered from his possession,” the officer said.
