NGT seeks reply on rainwater harvesting

more-in

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) sought a response from the Delhi government after a petitioner alleged that the Tribunal’s orders regarding installation of rainwater harvesting systems in schools have not been implemented.

A Bench headed by NGT acting chairperson U.D. Salvi issued notices to the Public Works Department, Directorate of Education, Delhi Jal Board and the Central Ground Water Authority, and sought replies by March 20.

The Tribunal had on November 16 directed all private and government schools and colleges in Delhi to install rainwater harvesting systems within their premises at their own costs. The institutions were given two months to do so.

“Any institution which does not comply with these direction shall be liable to pay an environmental compensation of ₹5 lakh,” the Bench had said.
