Steele running back Brenden Brady has decided to stay home and play for UTSA.

Brady, who committed to Rice before a senior season in which he rushed for 1,944 yards and 25 touchdowns, announced Thursday night on Twitter that he flipped his commitment to the Roadrunners. The Owls fired coach David Bailiff in November and hired Mike Bloomgren, formerly the offensive coordinator at Stanford.

"My family and I have decided that this is the best decision for me and my family," Brady said on Twitter. "I want to thank (UTSA coach Frank) Wilson and his whole staff for being the first people to see something in me and the last people there supporting me through the whole thing."

Brady, who is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, was one of three area players and two from Steele who competed in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl earlier this month at the Alamodome. He is a two-time selection to the Express-News All-Area Class 6A team, helping the Knights reach the 6A Division II state-championship game as a junior in 2016.
