Alexis Sanchez to Man Utd: Sean Dyche makes Harry Potter reference defending United

BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche admits he is not shocked by the salary Manchester United are set to pay Alexis Sanchez and compared him to Harry Potter.

Alexis Sanchez is set to sign a mega-money deal with Man Utd

The Clarets face Manchester United at Turf Moor with the Red Devils poised to sign Sanchez from Arsenal and make him English football’s best-paid player.

Sanchez will pick up £490,000 a week before tax at Old Trafford with Burnley’s best-paid player Robbie Brady on £35,000 a week by comparison.

But Dyche is not surprised by the figures bandied about and believes the cycle only mirrors the cash banked by top film stars.

“It’s become a major, major business and I don’t think it’s going to stop,” Dyche said. “Take Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter. So he starts off with the first film, he’s 13 and he gets 150 grand. Do you think he got 150 grand for the second film? He certainly did not.

“Then the third film comes along and now he’s 15 and he gets 15 million, let’s say. Then the fourth film comes along and he isn’t getting 15 million, he’s getting 35 million and he’s still only 19.

I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t go up

Burnley boss Sean Dyche

“No one comes along and says, ‘No, no, no, give him 150,000, that’s what he got for the first film. That’s ridiculous’. So why should it be different for sportsmen?

“It will be interesting to see what the next TV deal does in football because I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t go up.”

Dyche celebrates his 100th Premier League game in charge of Burnley against United but is uncertain if he will still be managing the Clarets for another century of games.

“Who knows? The rapid change in the viewpoint in football now is incredible,” he added.

“You have to be ready to dodge the bullets and find a way.”
