Pak HC meets Secy to discuss SAARC Summit

Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood on Friday met the Secretary General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Amjad Hussain B Sial, to discuss the possibilities of restoring the stalled SAARC Summit.

Pakistan took over from Nepal as the chair of SAARC, and in March 2017 and Sial was appointed as its SG. Sial was in India to attend the inaugural session of the International Conference of Women Entrepreneurs on Rs Innovation, Incubation and Industrialisation', that was held in Visakhapatnam from 17-19 January.

The Pakistani embassy in a statement said that during the meeting matters related to the SAARC process and promotion of its goals and objectives were discussed. "High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to keep working to strengthen SAARC as an effective instrument of regional cooperation in South Asia," the statement said.

The SAARC Summit scheduled to be held in Islamabad in 2016 was postponed indefinitely after all countries pulled out and asked Pakistan to prepare conducive grounds for the Summit.
