Safety of girl child

Almost five years have passed since the infamous Nirbhaya rape case in New Delhi came to lime light. The incident dates back to December 16, 2012, when a paramedic student was brutally murdered after physical assault and one of the assaulter was under 18.There was lot of hue and cry on the safety of girl child and revamping of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 which provides for reformative care in case of children or juvenile in conflict with law. It looks nothing has changed on the ground if the number of crime incidents taking place against women, girl child are considered. Nobody has to be blamed for the situation as country does not have a law for juvenile crime so what can a Court do. The recent incident of a mysterious death of a missing minor girl which triggered protest in the bordering Hiranagar Tehsil of Kathua District reminds one of the state of law and order prevailing and the security of girl child. Even the case featured in the Legislative Assembly leading to walk out over the issue of safety and security of life. This is not the only one incident but daily a number of such occurrences take place all along the country making one apprehensive of the safety of life. A pathetic state of affairs the country is facing. For statistical purposes there has been an upsurge in crime overall and woman and girl child are the worst affected. The Nirbahaya case had created lot of heat within all the sections of the society calling for severe punishment. It is only a matter of time. Till date no political party has played a productive role except creating hue and cry and walkouts whether in state Assemblies or Parliament. Issue has remained unresolved leaving poor man hapless over the game played by these political class who always ‘promise’ to help get justice. The Hiranagar incident too will also fall into the category of bygones are bygone with the passage of time.
