The Colorado State football coaching staff is one step closer to completion.

John Jancek will be the Rams’ next defensive coordinator, the school announced on Friday, to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Marty English. Jancek, 49, brings a wealth of experience to Fort Collins that includes 27 years of college coaching.

“I am excited to welcome John Jancek and his family to Colorado State,” CSU coach Mike Bobo said in a news release. “To attract a coach with his knowledge and experience to our football program is significant, and he will be instrumental in helping us reach our goals.”

Bobo and Jancek worked on the same Georgia coaching staff from 2005 to 2009, where Jancek was linebackers coach, plus co-defensive coordinator his final year in Athens. Jancek previously served as defensive coordinator at Cincinnati and Tennessee as well. Last fall, he was a defensive analyst at Kentucky.

“I’ve had the opportunity to coach on the same staff with John at Georgia, and I’ve coordinated offenses that have gone up against his defenses,” Bobo added. “He has a great deal of experience coaching and winning at the highest levels of college football, and I’m very excited he is part of the Ram Family.”

FootballScoop.com first reported Jancek’s addition to CSU’s coaching staff last week.
