Prepare your palate for Thin Mints, Samoas and other flavorful favorites, because the window on Girl Scout cookie sales has just opened.

Here's everything you need to know about the 2018 Girl Scouts of Central Texas cookie sales.

When will cookies be on sale?

Cookie sales run Jan. 17-Feb. 25. A box costs $4.

Where can I find the cookies?

If you don't know a Girl Scout selling cookies, don't despair. You won't have to make a quick U-turn when you glimpse a cookie-selling booth from the road. Instead, you can track the cookies down from your phone or computer.

Download the Cookie Finder mobile app on Apple and Android devices or visit www.girlscouts.org/en/cookies/cookies.html to find nearby cookie booths, which are usually tables set up temporarily in front of businesses such as supermarkets.

Cookie booths in San Angelo are typically set up beginning at 9 a.m. Saturdays. How long the girls stay at each booth depends on their inventory and what they decide as a troop.

Lauren White, spokeswoman for San Angelo's Girl Scouts of Central Texas, said Saturday booth locations will be updated by 5 p.m. each Friday on the Cookie Finder app and the website. Booths won't be set up every weekend, she said, so using the booth locator is recommended.

White said the booths are typically stationed at all Walmart stores in San Angelo. Other places include Sam's Club, Food King, Sunset Mall and Twisted Root Burger Co.

People can also call 800-733-0011 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and ask to be transferred to extension 709.

"We take calls, and we send patrons contact information and their cookie request to troop leaders," White said.

Can I buy cookies online?

You can buy Girl Scout cookies online, but it's not quite like ordering something from Amazon. It's more like buying the cookies at a traditional booth — you'll be interacting with a Girl Scout at some point of the order.

All Girl Scout cookies have to be ordered through the organization's Digital Cookie mobile app, which launched in 2015. Ordering cookies online is only available if you have a link from a Girl Scout or her parent.

Here's how it works:

  • A Girl Scout can initiate a cookie sale, whether online, via email, or in person at the cookie booth with their Digital Cookie mobile app.
  • A Girl Scout can invite you to visit her personalized cookie website, where you can place your order, pay using Visa Checkout or credit cards and have your order shipped or delivered by a Girl Scout.

"For digital cookies, each girl sets up her own personal website. They share their website link with patrons, and that's how they can offer online cookie orders," White said. "They would have to know a girl and she would have to personally be selling cookies online to share her link."

People can choose to have cookies shipped directly to them, which is a great option for families supporting their Girl Scout from out of state. Ordering online may not be available everywhere.

What flavors are available?

There are no new flavors this year. Girl Scout S'mores was new last year and is making a return this year.

The traditional cookie flavors are: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades and Thanks-A-Lot.

What are the best-selling cookies?

Thin Mints are the top-selling Girl Scout cookie in the US. Caramel deLites are the second best-selling cookie.

Where does the money from cookie sales go?

  • 53 percent to Girl Scouts programming
  • 31 percent to Troop and Service Unit
  • 16 percent to fund development, management and administration

The money raised from the sales of Girl Scout cookies in Central Texas stays in Central Texas. Girl Scouts USA receives no money from the area's cookie sales.
