PATIALA: The gram panchayat
Bhadson is now certified city after being declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by the government. The officials claimed that it is the first ever gram panchayat in the state which has been declared as city after getting free completely from open defecation. The Bhadson will now be part of the urban local body.
Regional Deputy Director, Local government department, Patiala Jiwan Jot Kaur claimed that it has been possible only with the support of the local residents of the Bhadson who also made efforts to get rid of this open defecation that not only puts down face the humanity but also invites the diseases.
She added that the surveys are being conducted and efforts will be done to manage the waste in the cities under the
Clean India Mission also known as Swachh Bharat Mission in the wake of 2018 under which the provisions of separate toilets for men will also be made besides the concentrating on making the villages ODF.

Punjab open defecation free
Among 13 open-defecation free districts of Punjab, Tarn Taran has been declared as the first open-defecation free border district by the Union government.
Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Fazilka and Ferozepur are five districts of Punjab that covers around 553 km of international borders with Pakistan.
In the rural areas of nine districts including Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Moga, Barnala, Faridkot, SAS Nagar and SBS Nagar have been self-declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by Gram Panchayats.
Over 6000 villages have been declared ODF till date whereas over 2 lakh households have constructed latrines while the construction of around 1.2 lakh latrines is underway.
