Noida: The government would provide electricity connection to all in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojna — Saubhagya, Union minister and local MP
Mahesh Sharma said on Thursday.
He also said the administration had already provided 251 connections to slum dwellers in sectors 17 and 18.
"We are planning to get legal connections for all in rural areas of Gautam Budh Nagar," the local MP said.
He was accompanied by Rakesh Kumar Rana, superintending engineer PVVNL circle 1; A K Singh and Ajay Kumar Ojha, executive engineers; sub-divisinal engineer Abbas Kazmi, and B K Gangal, junior engineer, among others.
The 'Saubhagya' scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 25 last year to ensure electrification for all willing households in the country.
Under the electrification scheme, poor households can avail power connection for free but the cost of electricity would have to be borne by the consumers according to the tariff of the discom department.
