Solo: A Star Wars Story is released in May, although it is completely unknown at this point who the antagonist is.

Despite whispers of Thandie Newton playing some kind of villain, it remains to be seen whether she will be the ‘big bad’.

Now, it’s been suggested that Boba Fett - long thought to be getting his own spin-off - who will appear in a pivotal role.

ComicBook.com fanned the flames yesterday by pointing out that with the Fett film facing numerous setbacks, an appearance in Solo could be a way of appeasing fans while quietly letting his own standalone project die.

There are also rumours - completely unconfirmed - that Fett toys are included in some of the film’s merchandise.

One fan quipped on Twitter: “I am being conservative here, but based on the things we've seen pop up and based on common sense, and again this is a conservative guess percentage....I would guess there is a 100% chance Boba Fett is in #SOLO. 

“Again that's a conservative number....but 100% chance. #StarWars.”

He is one of a huge number who are expressing enthusiasm over the prospect.

“A lot of so called Solo movie haters are gonna change their main when they see Boba Fett kicking ass. Think Vader in Rogue One times 10,” wrote fan account Star Wars Junk.

“If Boba Fett is in Solo, I really really really hope it's not leaked or in any trailers. I want to lose my s**t in the theater,” said another enthusiast.

“Han Solo and Boba Fett have a history so him being the villain makes some sense,” someone else pointed out.

Solo is still pending a teaser and full trailer, with a first glimpse expected imminently.

Footage was shown at a Disney event in Munich earlier this week, and the early reactions have been encouraging.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on May 25.
