NEW BERN — The Croatan boys team dominated a six-team meet last Saturday at the Twin Rivers YMCA Pool in New Bern.

The Cougars scored a 226.5 to win by more than 60 points. D.H. Conley (164.5) finished in second, Swansboro (144) in third, West Carteret (84) in fourth, Jacksonville (59) in fifth and Northside-Jacksonville (4) in sixth.

Despite missing a handful of swimmers to illness and holiday travels, the Croatan girls team placed third with a score of 158.

NEW BERN — The East Carteret swim teams took part in a seven-team meet last week at the Twin Rivers YMCA with the boys taking third and the girls finishing fifth.

NEW BERN — The West Carteret swim team traveled to New Bern last Saturday for a meet at the Twin Rivers YMCA Pool.

A registration complication left the Patriots severely shorthanded, but several swimmers still made their mark with top-five finishes. Both the boys and girls teams finished fourth in their respective meets.

RALEIGH — Jason Dudley recently put his name in the William Peace record book.

The former West Carteret standout ripped down 17 rebounds in a 79-60 victory over Berea College on Jan 7. to tie the school mark set by former Havelock standout Tyquan Nolan.

--------------------------

CAMP LEJEUNE — The East Carteret junior varsity boys basketball team captured wins in each of its last two games to improve to 3-3 in the 1A/2A Coastal 8 Conference.

East cruised past Lejeune 52-34 and earned a 42-34 triumph over Pender last week.

The Mariners (3-7 overall) will next take on Croatan tonight.

HOUSTON — A look at the results from the Monster Energy Supercross second round on Saturday doesn’t fully indicate the story of Cooper Webb’s night at NRG Stadium.

The Morehead City native went off the track and crashed in the first turn of the 450 main event, which snapped the clutch lever. It took him a moment to get up and get going, but once on the track, Webb reeled in the other riders and worked up to a 12th place at the finish.
