Winners from Friday will advance to finals Saturday at Orpheum Theatre in Memphis
Congratulations to Montgomery's own John Bull and Ed Pickett, who have made it into the semi-final round Friday night at the 34th International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.
The Montgomery singers/songwriters are competing in the single/duo category of the annual competition that brings in blues performers from around the world. They secured a spot in Friday night's semi-final round on Thursday evening.
This is Bull's second trip to IBC, and a first for Pickett. They're using original music from them both in the competition.
“I’m so excited to do this with Ed because he’s just such a pleasure to work with.” said Bull in an interview shortly before their trip. He sings and plays harmonica. "I feel like he and I go together really well, both musically and just being around and things like that. It’s just really comfortable."
“Oh, it’s great working with John,” said Pickett in an earlier interview. He plays guitar and sings in the duo. “He’s a professional. He always does his best for the audience putting on a show. I’ve got to be on my toes all the time.”
Friday night's semi-final round takes place at various Beale Street clubs at 6:20 p.m., according to the official IBC schedule. Those who make it through to the finals will compete Saturday at noon in the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis.
