TLC Credit Union gives cash to Scout group

ADRIAN — Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts received a $2,500 donation Friday from TLC Credit Union in Adrian.

The donation was part of TLC’s support of the Chief Lenawee District of the Boy Scouts. This fourth annual donation raised the total donation to $10,000.

“We’re dedicated to the Boy Scouts and we want to see — as we bring up these young men — that they succeed in life,” Suzanne Miller, assistant vice president of marketing at TLC, said. “(As a) community partner we want to provide funds needed to make sure that happens. and we have a lot of former Boy Scouts that work here and we want to support that.”

Bryan Powers, district chairman and Scoutmaster, said the donation supports Scout activities in the district, which represents troops in Hillsdale and Lenawee counties.

In return, Powers presented TLC with a plaque recognizing the support.

Powers said it costs the organization about $225 per Scout annually for such things as maintaining camping facilities, volunteer training, employing professionals and paying for insurance.

These costs, he said, were offset by donations from community partners such as TLC.

“Over 90 percent of the money raised does go to support Scouting. The overhead is fairly small,” Powers said. “I just want to thank TLC for their support. We’ve brought some (Boy) Scouts and Cub Scouts (to the presentation) because they’re the ones that really benefit from this … and we just appreciate the fact that they’re willing to help and continue to help us support a very valuable program.”
