Law and order in neighbouring Haryana has gone for a toss as incidents of rape are refusing to subside. In yet another incident, a 20-year-old woman was kidnapped and gangraped by two men in a moving car after she was abducted from outside her college in Farrukhnagar area on Monday. The incident spot is around 20 km away from Gurugram city. One 24-year-old youth Pawan has been arrested in this connection.
Haryana has been in the news for the last five days as sexual assaults on women and girls have been reported from Kurukshetra, Panipat, Hisar, Jind and Fatehabad districts, inviting outrage from across the State and the national Capital.
According to police, the survivor is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) 2nd year student in a private college and lives in a village under the jurisdiction of the Farrukhnagar police station. On Monday she was waiting for a public transport nearby her college when suddenly two men forced her into a car and then took turns in raping her in the moving car.
They threatened the victim not to disclose the incident to anyone and dropped her on a secluded road. From there, she reached her home and on Thursday she revealed her ordeal to her parents. They took the victim to the Farrukhnagar police station. After a medical examination, a rape case has been registered against the accused.
“Both the accused have been identified and one of them has been arrested. Both the accused are residents of Khera Khurrampur village. Police teams have been put on the job to bring them to justice,” the Station House Officer (SHO) of Farrukhnagar police station, Karan Singh, said.
In another incident of rape reported from Fatehabad district, a 20-year-old newly married woman was allegedly raped by two men in a village. The woman alleged in her police complaint that she was raped by her neighbour and another person on Wednesday.
She alleged that the two accused barged into her house when she was alone. The victim was threatened with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone. The woman had got married six months back, police said. “We have registered a case of rape against her neighbour and other co-accused.
The accused have also been booked under other relevant provisions of the law. They will be arrested soon,” Fatehabad’s SP Deepak Saharan said.
Haryana has recently witnessed many cases of rape. On Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy had allegedly raped a 3-year-old girl in a colony in Hisar. A 15-year-old girl’s half-naked body was found on Saturday from near the bank of a canal in a village in Jind district after she had gone missing last Tuesday from her village in Kurukshetra district. The girls’ private parts were mutilated, a reminder of the brutal gang rape and murder of a physiotherapy student in Delhi in December 2016 that led to a huge uproar across the country.
These incidents have come just two days after the Khattar Government made an announcement on Haryana’s improved sex ratio - 914 girls per 1,000 boys in 2017, which is an all-time high.
