SAN ANGELO - Harper Funeral Home said visitation for San Angelo community leader Floyd Crider will be 9-10:30 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the First Baptist Church, 37 E Harris Ave. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223.
The Rev. Crider, 68, of San Angelo, died Monday, Jan. 15, in San Antonio after a lengthy illness. Crider was a tireless community organizer who served on the boards of numerous local organizations in the human rights, nonprofit and faith-based sectors.
Crider, a Chicago native, retired from the U.S. Army as a senior non-commissioned officer in 1992 and moved to San Angelo.
He served for a decade as pastor of Galilee Baptist Church and co-pastor of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Gospel Service, in addition to working in the San Angelo school district as a teacher, counselor and at-risk coordinator until his retirement in 2011.
Crider was also well known as the founder of the Galilee Community Development Corp., an organization committed to helping residents obtain affordable housing.
