Icy roads continue making travel treacherous across north GA
ATLANTA - Officials are urging drivers to stay off the roadways again Thursday. However, if you have to be out on the roads before temperatures warm above freezing, don’t let your guard down because when you go around one curve it will be drivable and then the next covered in ice.

Thankfully, everyone will warm above freezing and experience full sunshine which will help enhance the melting process. However, temperatures will tumble below freezing again Thursday night into Friday morning, so any moisture left on the roads tonight will refreeze again.

Temperatures will warm above freezing throughout the day Thursday, then tumble below freezing again overnight. There is more concern for a refreeze Thursday night into Friday morning. This is the beginning of a nice January thaw because temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s this weekend. We will remain more seasonable over the next 7-10 days.
Much of north Georgia woke up Wednesday to snow on the ground and bitterly cold winds. Light snow started falling Tuesday evening and continued through the early morning hours. Accumulations of one inch were reported across much of the area, with isolated locations reporting closer to two inches of snow.
The snow ended across the FOX 5 viewing area by mid-morning Wednesday.
Roads were covered by a thin layer of snow, but thanks to strong winds and cold temperatures, visibility was poor and roads were treacherous early Wednesday. The Georgia Department of Transportation called on people throughout the area to stay home and avoid non-essential travel.
