The Troy Fire Department extinguished a fire in the kitchen and dining area in a unit at the Three Oaks Apartments on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

All occupants had evacuated the unit at 4126 Three Oaks Blvd. when firefighters arrived at about 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters advanced a hose line into the apartment, where they encountered heavy smoke conditions. Other firefighters advanced a backup hose line, began ventilating the structure, and conducted a search of the building to ensure everyone had gotten out.

Their quick actions stopped the spread of fire just as it was penetrating the walls and ceiling, threatening the apartment above, said Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Riesterer.
