"Dhivakaran is making contradictory and controversial statements. These have confused the people. When the government has officially announced that Amma died on December 5, why should he now say she passed away on December 4? We are not in favour of his claims," he said.
Tamilselvan further said that V K Sasikala, the general secretary of their faction and the elder sister of Dhivakaran, is currently in prison and Dhinakaran, who was appointed by her as the party's deputy general secretary, is functioning effectively.
"He fought against the state and the central governmets, got the support of the people, and tasted huge victory in the recently concluded RK Nagar by-election," he said, adding that only Dhinakaran is authorised to speak on behalf of the party, not Dhivakaran or Krishnapriya (Sasikala's niece).
On Wednesday evening, Dhivakaran stirred a fresh controversy by saying that Jayalalithaa died on December 4, 2016 and not on December 5 as officially announced by Apollo Hospitals. He said the official declaration on Jayalalithaa's death was delayed by a day so as to provide adequate security to the chain of Apollo Hospitals across the state.
An Apollo statement refuted Dhivakaran's claim and said it is unfortunate that unnecessary confusion is being created based on certain mis-information about the date and time of the demise of Jayalalithaa who had expired on the 5 December 2016.
