Judi Terzotis, regional president of Gannett media sites in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, has been named president of The Advocate, the privately-held media company with operations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Acadiana. She starts in her new position in February.
“I am incredibly proud to have worked for Gannett over the past 25 years,” said Terzotis, who started as an automotive sales person and rose through the ranks into sales management and publisher and regional publisher roles in markets across the southeast and Colorado. “The company has allowed me to grow my skill set and give back to the communities I’ve served.”
“It’s a bittersweet moment in my life,” said Terzotis, who has been based at The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette since 2013.
“I’m leaving a team I love to pursue a new opportunity that is a perfect alignment with my values and vision for community journalism,” she said.
“I have cherished my time with this highly talented group. We have done some amazing work together, and I feel I’m leaving the organization stronger.”
Terzotis will oversee the daily operation of three daily newspapers, in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Acadiana, and 11 weeklies.
Dan Shea, who has been both president and publisher of The Advocate for the last three years, will remain as publisher, with Terzotis reporting to him.
Terzotis is a member of One Acadiana Executive Board of Directors and the United Way of Acadiana Executive Board of Directors, for which she is also co-campaign chair.
Terzotis and her husband, Bob, an economics consultant, will relocate closer to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. She has one son, Capt. Trey McMinn, an LSU graduate and a Blackhawk pilot for the Louisiana National Guard deployed to Iraq.
Two stepchildren – John, a freshman at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Sarah, a high school senior – live in North Carolina,
Terzotis grew up “Army brat,” and attended 11 schools before completing from high school. She graduated from The University of Tennessee and enjoys running, traveling and spending time with her family.
“I am most proud of the impact our staffs have made in the lives of our readers and business partners, and mentoring staff to achieve their goals,” Terzotis said.
