Former honorary consul to the Solomon Islands Sir Trevor Garland will today face court after allegedly sexually assaulting a man at a home in Sydney's north west last year.

Mr Garland, 62, was arrested yesterday and charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault.

New South Wales Police allege he assaulted a 24-year-old man at an Oakhurst home between March and April 2017.

Mr Garland was knighted for his services to the Solomon Islands and served as honorary consul for almost 20 years.

Detectives searched the home and seized several items yesterday.

Mr Garland will appear at Sydney's Central Local Court today.
