New Lex wrestlers top Athens

Host New Lexington scored six pins in beating Athens 54-21 on Senior Night on Thursday.

Jacob Dold (138) pinned Bill Wallace in 5:14; Layne Talbot (152) pinned Cierra Ellis in 1:25; Corban West (160) pinned Tyler Shuler in 3:18; Cole Gilligan (195) pinned Mikel Casteel in 49 seconds; Luke Shively (220) pinned Josh Poches in 2:25 and Jacob Danielson (285) pinned Dylan Wogerman in 1:30 to lead the New Lex effort.

Justice Freeman (126) scored a 10-4 decision against Brian List; John Mautz (170) posted an 8-4 decision against Kiah Smith; and Blake Sheppard (113) and Leilah Castro (120) each won by forfeit to round out the Panthers’ scoring.

Jon Kimball (106) pinned Eddie Hook in 1:20, Chris Jackson (132) won by a 10-5 decision over Landin Price, Devin Macy (145) pinned Hayden Shoults in 50 seconds and Drake George (182) pinned Ethan Covert in 3:59 for Athens.

FCA looking for Coaches/Mentors

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Office at The Fieldhouse in Sunrise Center is looking for coaches/teachers who are interested in spreading the Gospel to area athletes, students and musicians as mentors.

FCA Fieldohouse Leaders, Aaron Bates and Abby Lutz, will assist and instruct FCA’s Mission to coaches/mentors who would like to minister their own teams or work with area youth, ages 12 to 21, looking to enhance their spiritual wellness through FCA's Huddles, events, activities and bible study.

Muskingum Valley Baseball/Softball to have class for umpires

The Muskingum Valley Baseball/Softball Umpires class begins on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Muskingum Valley Old Timers Clubroom on Meadow Street in Zanesville, which is across West Main from Gant Stadium.

The softball class starts at 2 p.m. with baseball following at 4 p.m. Cost is $90 per class and includes first year OHSAA dues. Discounts are available to anyone who wants to take both classes.

Anyone 15 and older may take the class, and all class participants will become OHSAA Class 2 or 3 umpires at the end of the course. Summer umpiring opportunities are also available.

Indoor Soccer starting third session

The third and final session of Century-SEO Indoor Soccer starts Feb. 16 and runs for six weeks for boys and girls ages 2 1/2 through 18 as well as adult and co-ed.
