West Bengal soon coming up as an ‘all-weather tourist destination’ of India

West BengalWest Bengal is steadily coming up as an all-weather destination greeting with open arms to business travelers along with social and leisure trips all through the year. The state tourism minister, Indranil Sen said that in terms of variety of products, West Bengal is unparallel.

 
He was giving speech at the inaugural Session of the Destination East – West Bengal Tourism Summit 2018, in front of a large gathering of tourism stakeholders coming from 30 different countries, like the US, UK, Russia, Australia, Turkey and many South East Asian countries. The summit was arranged in Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in the Rajarhat-New Town area in Kolkata yesterday.

 
West Bengal is growing at a CAGR of 26.5% between FY 2011 and FY 2016 related to the number of visitor footfalls, against a CAGR of 14.5% between FY 2001 and FY 2010, as the minister said. The Minister highlighted the Durga Puja festival, saying, “This is unique. Every neighbourhood has a story to tell.”

 
Also Sen said that greenfield projects will be included in the tourism menu of the state in terms of foreign travelers. The State in infrastructure and service development is anticipated to make profit of around Rs. 5000 crore in the coming five years. “One of the biggest project is coming up at Gajaldoba in north Bengal, apart from Jharkhali in the Sunderbans, Purulia, Sabujdweep in Hooghly district and several other places across the state as new initiatives to attract visitors,” the West Bengal minister of state for Tourism said.

 
“Owing to the diversity in geographical contours from the Himalayas to the beaches of Bay of Bengal, the state offers everything to a tourist.”
