A Jan. 3 shooting involving three Fort Smith police officers has been ruled justified, according to a news release from the Prosecuting Attorney's Office from the Twelfth Judicial District of Arkansas.
Sebastian County Prosecutor Daniel Shue says the three officers who fired their weapons at Matthew Pittman were "justified under the laws of the State of Arkansas," according to a news release. Pittman allegedly drove his vehicle at civilian and police vehicles and an officer after officers tried to arrest him on a felony warrant on the evening of Jan. 3. at Pic-N-Tote, 1116 Grand Ave.
Pittman was charged Friday on three counts of aggravated assault, all felonies punishable by up to six years in prison, in connection to the incident, the release states.
Pittman will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Sebastian County Courts Building, the release states.
