GERMAN MEP Hans-Olaf Henkel blamed the European Union for UK’s decision to leave the bloc and said most people in Brussels do not realise it is their fault as much as Britain's.
Hans-Olaf Henkel, German MEP, compared the EU to a “football club that decided to play golf”, and blamed Brussels for Brexit.
Speaking to RT News, Mr Henkel said that President Jean-Claude Juncker’s comments in the European Parliament plenary meeting were an admission of guilt towards the UK.
Mr Juncker called Brexit a “lose-lose” situation and admitted the exit of Great Britain is a “catastrophe”.

Mr Henkel said: “In the European Parliament I had the impression, and I still have it quite frankly, that most people believe it is a problem of Britain, well it is not.
“It’s at least as much of a problem also for the continent. Let’s not forget, after Brexit Britain is by far the largest customer of the European Union, ahead of the United States or China.
“In this Parliament, most people believe that Brexit had been a decision only by the British, which is of course true.

“But they have ignored so far the contribution Europe made to Brexit, Britain was upset with many of the decisions which were made in Brussels and Strasbourg.
“If I was a Brit I would feel like I am joining a football club but the management decides to play golf.
“And then when I leave the club I really wonder who is responsible for my departure, not only me who has left.
