THE FOCUS
Minnesota Duluth has received a big boost in the form of Alaska Fairbanks transfer Peter Krieger. A teammate of Cam Johnson’s in Waterloo, Krieger has jumped in to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with seven goals and 19 points in 23 games. His four game-winning goals lead the NCHC and he also leads the Bulldogs in faceoff wins. Krieger centers a potent top line with Riley Tufte and Joey Anderson on his wings.
THE PICK
Splits are becoming the popular pick this season -- and for good reason. Sweeps have been rare. Only 16.7 percent of UND’s series this season have ended in a sweep for either team. This weekend, several highly skilled rookies will play prominent roles on both sides. That generally leads to ups and downs for both sides. UND should be able to end its six-game losing streak to the Bulldogs, but a sweep seems unlikely.
UND 3-1, Minnesota Duluth 4-2

NOTES
+ Former Grand Forks Central and UND standout Paul LaDue was called up by the Los Angeles Kings this week. LaDue, who played 22 NHL games last season, had spent the first half of this year with the Ontario Reign in the AHL. LaDue has eight goals and 17 points in 34 games for Ontario this season.
+ Former UND defenseman and head coach Dave Hakstol earned his 100th NHL win as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Hakstol’s Flyers are three points behind defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh for the final playoff spot, but the Flyers have played three fewer games.
+ Bismarck’s Britta Curl led the U.S. to a gold medal at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship. Curl had two goals and four points in the gold medal game against Finland. Curl is committed to Wisconsin.
+ Notre Dame enters this weekend’s series against Wisconsin on a 14-game winning streak, the third-longest winning streak in college hockey in the last 25 years, only behind Harvard’s 15-game run last season and Boston College’s 19-game streak in 2011-12.
+ This weekend's UND-Minnesota Duluth series features two of college hockey's iron men. Austin Poganski ranks first nationally with 146 games played, tied with Mitch McLain from Bowling Green. Bulldog forward Karson Kuhlman has played 145.
