Honda’s luxury Acura brand unveiled its 2019 Acura RDC Prototype at the Detroit Auto Show, sporting an Android-based interface for its infotainment system, the Verge reported. The car will go on sale in the second half of this year. Honda’s newest unit in the Odyssey minivan is also Android based. Honda said that the Android system is controlled through a touchpad, and that it will have all the infotainment functions available on its future models.

The system in the Acura prototype has a 10.2 inch HD screen. Drivers need to touch their finger on the part of the pad that corresponds to where the tile is on the screen and the icon lights up with a red-orange background. They are then in the system. The tiles for navigation and other functions on the screen are configurable, and favourites can be made for people the driver calls a lot, for preferred destinations, or for favourite radio stations, for example. The tiles can be moved to the corners of the screen so that the driver needs only tap on of the four corners to activate them.

A voice control function will also come to the new Acura system on the DRX, as well as some hard keys.
