Edward Earl Risner, 65, passed away on January 18, 2018, in Fostoria, Ohio.
He was born Dec. 31, 1952, in Kansas, Ohio to Margaret (Chalfin) Risner and Jackson Risner, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1971, where he was elected Class Speaker and won district public speaking awards through the FFA. He served in the United States Army from 1971-1974, which afforded him the opportunity to see the world and added to his story arsenal. Ed studied electrical engineering at Terra Community College, where he was Union President from 1975 to 1976. He also studied business and accounting at Tiffin University. On Aug. 1, 1981, he married Annette Elchert, who survives him at home in Fostoria. Mr. Risner spent several years doing factory work and flea marketing until fulfilling his dream of opening the only comic book and collectible shop in Fostoria in 1989. He spent over ten years selling insurance for Prudential and Knights of Columbus and also helped raise more than 15 foster children, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His nickname, Ed Cat, is just one testament to his quirky personality. He also had a sharp memory and a heart that knew no strangers. While he enjoyed billiards, roller skating, collecting yearbooks, and reading, he had an incredible affinity for Jeopardy, antiques, crosswords, coffee, a variety of music, and quiet.
His firm handshake and genuine smile will not be forgotten.
Survivors include two daughters, Lindsey (Michael) Fenstermaker, Forest; Lauren (Nick) Nomina, Fostoria; three grandchildren, Lucas and Logan Fenstermaker, of Forest, and Gabriel Nominee, of Fostoria. He was proud to be part of a large and loving family that included six brothers, John, Bill, and Carl Heinsman, and Jack, Jim, and Jerry Risner; as well as one beloved sister, Sue (Bruce) Myers and 34 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Olivia Suzanne. A celebration of life will be held at the Arcadia Community Park on Monday, January 22nd from 5-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arcadia Community Park Fund/Arcadia Lions Club. Arrangements have been entrusted with Coldren-Crates Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at www.coldrencrates.com.
