NAVASSA -- The public is invited to attend a public meeting about the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp Site – Navassa. The meeting will be 6-8 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Navassa Community Center, 338 Main St. The meeting is hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, and the Multistate Environmental Response Trust.
Topics will include:
Remedial Investigation -- Highlights of the recently completed environmental investigation of the site and its contamination.
Feasibility Study -- Upcoming study of potential remediation options.
Redevelopment Planning Initiative -- Multistate Trust’s ongoing effort to identify community-backed alternatives for the site’s reuse.
Feb. 23–24 Community Visioning Workshop -- Evening and daytime sessions where the public is invited to discuss ideas, hopes and concerns for the site’s reuse.
