A case for Aadhaar

more-in

In this country, any cynical portrayal of the government is readily embraced and we all suffer from a “I don’t know what this new development really is, but it is dangerous” syndrome (“Can govt. mandate sharing of biometric data, asks SC”, Jan. 18). When someone says Aadhaar is an invasion of privacy, we never stop to think what damage leaked data can do that a mobile number (which is linked to everything we eat, drink, wear, or own), or a lost credit card, cannot.

When we say Aadhaar reduces us to numbers, what about our PAN card, passport, voter ID, driver’s license or credit card?
